PLANT COLLECTIONS

Key collections include: historic and significant specimen trees, Moraceae (primarily Fig trees), Arecaceae (Palms – one of the 3 most diverse public collections in Australia), Gynosperms (primarily Conifers), Araceae, Zingiberales, and Poaceae (bamboo). Over the 20 ha there are about 2500 trees primarily from tropical and subtropical climes from around the world. Historic plantings include the oldest planted Macadamia in the world, oldest Tamarind in Australia, and oldest bamboo in Queensland [Source: Dale Arvidsson, Curator, 19 April 2018].
