Bush-houses and Umbráculo Dreaming
Shade-houses in Australia were traditionally called Bush-houses, or Ferneries, or Fern Houses. In warmer climate areas they contained lush Tropicalian vegetation while cooler climes afforded fern collections that could take the odd frost. Over time, they evolved from serious working greenhouses to places to display plant collections and eventually places to linger and enjoy a cup of tea or reading a book. However, in Spain there is also a tradition of shade-houses but they are called Umbráculo or Umbracle in Catalan.
