Walter Hill planted a row of Araucaria bidwillii in about 1861. These distinctive native conifers grew in the Bunya Mountains (northwest of Brisbane) and were first seen by Tom Petrie (1831-1910) but botanist John Bidwill (1815-1853) first described the species which bears his name.
